Fishing information for June 2023 ~ GRADE 7
Dear Parents/Guardians; We will again implement a fishing unit into our Physical Education curriculum at Bourne Middle School (BMS) this year! We are able to facilitate this activity due to grant monies from; the Future Fisherman Foundation, the American Sport Fishing Association, the Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation, the National Association for Sport and Physical Education and the Massachusetts Amateur Sports Foundation. Emphasis of the lessons pertains to casting technique for accuracy and distance. Other dry-land activities include; Backyard Bass Fishing, Fishing Carnival, and a Nine Hole Fishing Golf course. The last day of the unit we will walk to and from the canal and attempt to catch stripers and bluefish! BMS will supply all the equipment and bait for the fishing activities. All fish that are caught will be released; we will weigh and measure the fish, and get a photo to document achievement! Your child will be required to wear Personal Flotation Device (PFD’S) and protective eyewear. SUNGLASSES are ENCOURAGED. Your child may also bring his/her own rod but it must be dropped off at the school as we cannot transport fishing rods on the buses. Permission slips are required for the students to leave school grounds to participate in this unique field trip. The written slip must be on file to allow your child to walk to the canal. We are very excited to provide the students of BMS the opportunity be be involved in the sport of fishing. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact us or look on our website: www.bmspe.weebly.com. Sincerely, Andrew Mather [email protected] Samantha Ziehl [email protected] |
